Being right handed or left handed has nothing to do with genetics. It comes natural and means that your daughter is right side brain dominant when it comes to small motor skills (writing, drawing etc). As she gets older, you may notice other left handed activities: batting lefty, holding her utensils the opposite way, throwing lefty, kicking lefty etc. The right side of your Brain controls your left side of your body, while your left side of your brain controls the right side of your body.
In 90% of humans, the left side is more dominant, which is why most things are set up for righty people (water fountains, stick shift, desks etc). Do not correct her because she's lefty. She'll be fine.

Because somewhere in the long line of ancestors of your's someone was left handed (besides most kids ARE left handed in the beginning) I was left handed until I started kindergarten where the teacher was adamant about all of her students being right handed. So adamant that she would hit my left hand with the metal edge of a ruler whenever I tried to use my left hand. I still use my left hand when I iron, dial a phone and it was easy to learn how to touch type because both hands go at the same speed.

left-handedness is not genitic. It just is. what is the big deal? If someone told you that there is something wrong with your daughter because she is left handed you should tell them to get a life.

If you must know my father was left handed and a genius. I doubt the 2 were related because pretty much his entire family was well above average intellegence and all right handed.

Oh and being left handed is not a sign of Satan nor is it dirty.

Your dominant hand leads to what side of your brain is dominant. Meaning, if your right side, which controls the left half of the body for some reason, of the brain is dominant you're opt to be left handed. And vice versa. Do you understand? So my left brain must be dominant because I'm right handed. Plus my left brain is more dominant since I'm more of a thinker than artistic.....So it has to do with which side of her brain is most dominant....and in this case it's probably her right

It could be that in the past the culture will convert the lefty to right handed persons. Children's spoons were angled to fit a right handed child and even in the 70's teachers would tie a lefty's hand behind their back so they would switch. I am a hopeless lefty that my right hand only keeps my watch from falling off. My sister and mother are the only right handers to 7 wrong handers.

I'm the same way. Left handed, and no one else in our family is. I did a lot of internet research on it, and all the info I found boiled down to "They don't know why" That's too bad, because I'd really like to know.

genes are funny and some people think that left or right is a preffrence. you may have a great great family member with left handed and so does your daughters father.

I don't think there are any real concrete reasons that explain why a person is left-handed or right-handed.

Just making sure, you don't try to "train" her to be right-handed, do you? It's not good to do that.
