and whom would you define as the "wrong side," your bourgeois highness? you know, the most obstructing thing when dealing politics and sophisticated analyses like yours is ambiguity. you have to be clearer, you know.

The first mistake the west made was not finishing the job they started when Iraq invaded Kuwait, they should have go on to remove Saddam, but they lost their nerve due to the fear of upsetting their Arab Allies. going in under the guise of weapons of mass destruction, was a mistake, still what done etc. For the west to pull out now would be a failing, there are a lot of Iraq's who are not against the west, and just want to get on with their lives, are we prepared to let them down ? and possible face torture or death, just because we are afraid of a fight ? The Arabs countries would then have no faith in the west, and this risk's causing more instability in the region. I am surprised that the west hasn't asked other Arab countries to send in "United Nation" force's to try and put a stop to the insurgents, rather than the west force's, then the insurgents might feel its not western troops taking over the country.

These nations have been fighting over religion for centuries. Why should we be worried about who wins. There is no right side and no wrong side because no one will ever win. This was never our "war" to begin with. Why is it that we Americans believe that we need to "police" the world problems...we can't even take care of our own and yet we meddle in others.

I saw some documentary a little while ago that reported of a man who has been given some top job in some great big building (sorry, I am no good at remembering names and stuff). He was put there by the British government. This man has already amassed an armed support to him. The people who follow him and are prepared to carry out violent acts for him are one of the strong religious factions. Is this beginning to sound familiar?? When we pull out, he takes over, a new Saddam is born. Remember, it was the British who gave Saddam his job in the first place.
Of course, my facts are a little sketchy, I hope someone who remembers the documentary better than me can give you clearer details.

Considering that the pro-Iranian theocractic Shiites and the pro-Syrian fascist Sunnis are both the wrong side, (and the Kurds would be crushed by the Turks if it looked like there was any danger of them winning), there isn't really much 'worry' involved.

The West is in Iraq for their oil. The terrorist don't exist, in any guise other than defending their country from Eastern invaders (us). The media are probably lying to us about it all.

The biggest fear is Iran, and ,or, Turkey, taking control. The immediate fear, is civil war.
It would be devastating for America, and Europe, if those countries, especially Iran took control of all those resources.

There is no wrong side. It is their country....so they will kill each other until some strong hand takes over.
You can pull out but you can't hide!!!!
