Ive turned in a million applications and I havent even recieved a phone call. I go up and check on my applications and they always tell me that "they'll look into it" and still nothing. Ive basically given up all hope, but I'm still gonna try. Is there any advice anyone can give me?

Post your resume and people will be able to give you a better answer. Be advised however that when using words such as "gonna" in your application it will most likely end up in the trash can. Furthermore, "having given up all hope" as you quoted, is not exactly a very helpful attitude to have when venturing into a job search endeavour.

What kind of job are you trying to get?

I have skills in a variety of positions, and I tailor my resume to match the position available at the company which it will be submitted. You might want to try this. Downplay less relevant experience, up play more relevant experience.

Post your resume on careerbuilder.com and monster.com. I got my last job this way.

Always over dress for interviews. You'll be remembered as the guy that looked sharp instead of the guy that looked like a slob. Speak clearly and articulate. If people can't understand what you're saying due to a heavy accent or due to slang, they're not going to want you around. I'd rather someone speak slowly so I can understand them than try to get a point across quickly.

Never say anything negative about your former employers. Always try to up-play it. I have a fairly unique circumstance, that due to the time I was at a specific company, I feel obligated to list the company, but when they ask why I don't list them as a reference I simply state that there's a certain level of professionalism I expect when working for a company, and I will give them the contact information of this company, but I ask that they speak with a certain person that will give an honest reference. I don't think that a supervisor that will cuss me out and throw files at me is going to give an honest reference.

Without knowing more about your specific circumstance, it's hard to give relevant advice.

First question that comes to mind is how do you dress, and how do you come across? If you are dressing in street clothes and speaking street slang sorry you will not get a job. First rule dress appropriately next speak in clear English. I work for a large Chemical company and have people apply for jobs ($22-$24 an hour) show up in jeans and T-shirt hat on sideways talking street with an attitude thinking they deserve the job. Guess what? none of them got hired. Why ? Dress and attitude, first impressions do make a difference.Hard cold fact, but it is the truth

If you want a job they are there you just have to go after them. Say you want to work for company "X" do some reseach on it find out whom is incharge get a name then make your name known to that person call and call that person set up a time to meet show that person what your made of. I will say if you do that you will get work fast. Just remember you may not get the job you want at first, but if you apply yourself you will get the job you want.

You should read the book called "The secret" by Rhonda Byrns and watch the DVD before you continue with your job search.

Without knowing what kind of jobs you're applying for it's hard to help you. Dress for success is all I can say.

I would say go right in the place your appling at and ask to see the manager, tell him you need a job and would like to apply. Then let him send you where you need to apply at, so he sees you first hand.
