I don't think it would be this one:

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

John 13:34-35

There are those verses, but they were twisted by those who wanted to justify their wrong doing.

One must realize that slavery as we see it is not what is or was in other cultures or times. Many slaves were essentially under contract to pay off a debt or pay for passage to a new land. Even many of the slaves in our country were slaves as payment for someone bringing them here. Not all, I know - far too many were mistreated.

Anyway, the scriptures used as an excuse to have slaves were a misuse of scripture.

Ha!! Christians nevertheless do this today!! i'm a Christian, and that i run into hypocrites consistently. They twist the meaning of the bible to in advantageous condition their time-honored desires and needs. Why do human beings try this? because of the fact it relatively is relatively troublesome to stay the at cutting-edge and slender course that the bible teaches us to do. there are a variety of of of issues in this international that tempt us, and inspite of each and everything, we are in basic terms human with a will, so we only say "that's what God says to do," whilst it for sure isn't. i think of for a whilst, it makes the persons doing it sense extra effective approximately what their doing. yet, i think that when time, they understand what they're relatively doing and guilt takes over. a minimum of, i'm hoping that's what occurs!

There are many such verses. Here are a smattering:

Leviticus 22:11
If the priest buy any soul with his money....

Leviticus 25:39
And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee....

Leviticus 25:44-46
Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids. Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever.

Ephesians 6:5
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ.

Colossians 3:22
Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God.

1 Timothy 6:1
Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

Titus 2:9-10
Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

1 Peter 2:18
Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

Don't forget, emancipation freed the slaves, but slavery is still perfectly legal under the 13th Amendment!

It says in Section 1:

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

That's why chain gangs are legal.

Yep. Paul says a lot about how to treat ones slaves, he also has a lot to say about how to behave properly, (women wearing hats, for example). Now, do those rules apply to us today? Most people say no... but they still apply the other less objectionable rules without questioning..

Slaves back in ancient days were more like servants or housekeepers, not mistreated and often payed (as little as possible, but they also got plenty of food and shelter). Not to mention many slave owners considered their slaves to be like family.

The Bible deals with slavery and how they should act and how the "owner" should treat them. The alternative to slavery during Biblical times was death. God was more interested in the slaves staying alive than anything else.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Quite the opposite.
