Sorry, only the people that have kids with that type of situation can answer that.

Well, first off, why do you care? It's not like if people who can't afford kids started getting serialized your tax dollars wouldn't be taken anyway.

To answer your question though--I think most people lack foresight. They don't realize what having a kid entails financially until they have too many. Education is a big issue in this country and so is parenting. I feel if they educated all high school students about parenting and about finances [as a mandatory course] then there would be more successful parents financially and mentally.

Oh well, what are you going to do? Unless you plan on making a change I don't see the point in wondering.

This issue is not so cut and dry as you seem to think. Take my family for example. At the time we had our children we were comfortable - not wealthy but easily able to "afford" them.

Now, due to a series of illnesses and injuries, we are no longer on the same income. At the same time, the cost of living has risen dramatically. Though we do not smoke, drink or take drugs and do not even own a credit card, we are now struggling.

Should we be required to hand our children to the state because, in the view of people like you, we cannot "afford" them?

Well, I am not in that type of situation but some people, for religious reasons, do not believe in birth control. And of course, there are some that don't think about the pregnancy part when they are in the heat of the moment. And the real terrible reason would be so they can milk the system.

I've always wondered that too. It's so easy to have kids but raising them is another matter. People should look at their finances and consider how much it costs to raise the children before they have them. The kids will have a better quality of life if they are born into a more comfortable financial situation.

As always, I'm appalled by the number of people who share this mentality, that if a person doesn't have moderate wealth, they shouldn't have children.

Ultimately, it's not your business to understand why people have children if they "can't afford" them. This isn't the same kind of thing as maxing out your credit to buy the ultimate souped up mack daddy of SUV's when you're broke and have no need for it. This is a child, another human being, and I believe that if you were ever in the same situation as those people are, you'd find that it's not as simple as deciding not to purchase something you can't afford.

That is a very good question, one I have wondered about for years when I see this situation. The sensible people I know stop with 1 or 2. Both parents work to make ends meet. Unfortunately, in situations where there are more children than can be provided for reasonably, there is usually poverty and ignorance. For me it is a disturbing dichotomy.

Because they want to have kids and certain religions are against birth control. I have a brother in law who has 9 kids and he works and makes enough money to support them all and his wife while she stays home to look raise the children and take care of their apartment in my inlaws house. I have another brother in law who has 13 kids ranging in age from 16-2 years old. He also does a wonderful job of supporting them all. Plus in our religion birth control is a sin and is against our religion.

Maybe they have a big heart or it just happened. I know I have gotten pregnant twice on two different birth controls. I have 2 girls and i'm currently pregnant with my third. But we take care of our children.
