OK you already have avg. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

Contravirus is a rogue spyware program that can't be removed by any means other than antispyware. AVG 7.5 is an excellent antivirus and you should keep it up to date and use it. But to get rid of this you need to get Get SpyBot Search & Destroy to safely remove spyware. Best of all, it’s free. After installing it, immunize the computer against over 18,000 known pieces of spyware. Then run a full bot check and remove everything it finds using the Fix Selected Problems tab. Keep it updated and run it weekly to keep your computer free of this stuff. Then get Ad-Aware also from download.com and run it the first time doing a Full System Scan. Thereafter, run a Smart Scan daily.

Keep them both updated and use them.

Well they would say that wouldn't they? They are trying to spook you into buying a load of crap basically.

Check what executable file is running by using Task Manager and clicking on the Processes tab.

Scroll down and do a Google search on any suspicious .exe file. It will not be a SYSTEM, NETWORK process so that will narrow down your search.

Once you have established the process then do a Google search to find out how to remove all the components of the program.

Contravirus is a piece of spyware, AVG won't get rid of it. Try this - Spybot Search & Destroy
