No we just use moreno to describe dark complected people
We sometimes do use it to referr to black people but it's not a deragatory term at all I call my brother moreno and some of my friends it just means that person is dark complected
Moreno isn't really slang at all
I guess it's just a term we use
It's like if I see a person who is darker than me I call them morenos
Yet If I see a person who is lighter than me I call them gueros.
It's just something we call people close to us ( either one )
but don't go around calling hispanic people that they might get offended
But we also call black people morenos
and white people gueros

Moreno/a is someone who has dark skin or hair but it is not the same as the 'n' word. It's not an insult. It's not derogatory.
A brunette would be a 'Morena'.
'pan moreno' = brown bread
'azúcar moreno' = brown sugar
And it's also a last name.

Moreno is legitimate Spanish word. On the west coast we say "chanate", it's not the n-word, but it is street slang for an African American.

It's not exactly the n word, but it's something along those lines. I don't think it's as offensive though. Literally, it means "tan" or "dark"
