mismo = same

the same man = el mismo hombre
the same = lo mismo

but also as adv. means right

right now = ahora mismo
right here = aquí mismo

and (for emphasis) myself, yourself, herself, itself, etc.

I'll do it myself = lo hare yo mismo
the text itself = el texto mismo

Mismo can also be used to emphasize a noun. For instance, "yo mismo..." would be "Even I..." or to say "the king himself did it..." you would say "El rey mismo lo hizo..."
