people adapted based on the region of the world they lived in. It says right in the bible the sun has darkened a lot of people. Eventually people evolved that way.

I'm not usually very good at giving short answers but in this case I'll try. based on your answers to other R&S questions, I can assume you're Christian. If you also have an open mind, please read this article that I published a couple years ago:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseac...
It shows that Adam and Eve were not the only (or first) humans on the planet. Although it doesn't directly answer your question about the variety of races/skin colors on the planet today, it should give you enough information to help answer the question.
Suprisingly, only one of the answers you've gotten so far has suggested that Noah was the father of the different races. If you read my article and think about the possiblity that Noah and his sons could have married into other races, it would go a long way toward explaining racial diversity.
After that it's just a matter of a combining adaptation to a particlular climate with the characteristics passed down by different gene pools i.e. a certain tribe migrated to asia where their skin color developed over time due to the climate whereas hair color and facial features were the result of dominate genes.
I hope this answers your question.

You ask a great question and I'm glad you ask it. By asking that kind of question you allow yourself to begin the process of unravelling the biggest mystery of your life. How exactly would that be possible? Is it even possible at all? I don't think it would be, would it? Of course that would mean that the Bible may have some incorrect facts regarding the beginnings of mankind. But, if that part can be incorrect then what about the rest? Keep asking!!!
So that you don't become misled I thought I'd also add some insight into all the "gene theory" comments. Have you ever seen children born of parents from different races? That child sometimes looks just like the mom, sometimes like dad, but mostly looks kind of in between. That child almost never comes out radically different from its parents unless there is a mutation. If you look further back in the scrapbook, the moms and dads look kind of like their parents and so on all the way back. Yes, it's true that populations will take on unique characteristics over long periods of time as dominant genes and climate affect their population but this process takes tens of thousands of years to develop. Much longer than the 6000 or so years the Bible indicates as the beginnings of Adam and Eve. Soooooo, keep researching that.

Adam and Eve were the first, yes, but they had children. One of these children were called Cain. Cain killed his brother, and so God placed a 'mark' on him. This 'mark', I fully believe, is dark brown skin and a flatter nose. And Cain had children with the same traits.
Now fast forward two thousand years latter. Noah had three sons, Shem, Japheth and Ham. After the flood, Shem went to the Mid-East and started the Jewish and Arab race (btw, the Mid-East is also called the "Cradle of Civilization").
Japheth went to either ther British Isles or Greece, and started the White race.
Ham, an his wife Egyptus (meaning "forbidden", so is most likely a descendant of Cain) went down south to Egypt and started the Black race.
The other races came about from the different races breeding together.
The only race where I can't put my finger on the origins is the Orient race. I have my ideas, but I don't want to accidentally teach faults doctrine (who knows, I probably already have :D ).

Either way, creationism or evolutionism, science proves that we all came from the same parents. It is like the trees. They have all different colors in the leaves but the green color is more dominate during the summer. As fall comes, the other colors, who were there the whole time, become more dominate. Adam and Eve began with the complete DNA, but after time and separation, some genes become more dominate because the other DNA has been lost. When things evolve, they never gain DNA information, they lose it. See www.drdino.com or www.creationevidence.org for more facts and information.

Don't really listen to others answers that tell you they're answer is the right one. It's really based upon your belief. I can tell you what I believe though. I think that what you said is correct. They had kids and the more generations that created, the more the people dispersed. Then the continents separated as well. They all lived in different climates and regions of the Earth and they adapted to there habitat. With that, their appearance is different as well. If you are a Christian, I suggest that you read into the bible or whichever book pertains to your beliefs.

Considering the part of the world from which they originated, it is likely that Adam and Eve were brown or even black. As people moved away from the equatorial regions, the skin became lighter in color because the body did not require as much melanin to protect it from the sun. This kind of Genetic mutation is common and accepted even by those who do not believe in the traditional theories of evolution as they meet the criteria for change...which is: Immediate benefit to the organism.

i never heard that adam and eve where one color, but assuming they were here's my theory. and just like evolution is presented as fact and not a theory that is how i will present mine.
i know that when you mix a bunch of colors together you get a dark brown color.
i know that after the Flood the tower of Babel happened and God made all the folks separate.
i know that folks who live in hot climates are darker and have less body hair and the opposite is also true.
and according to smart folk the land mass separated and cut off others from each other .
and i can see from the evidence of all the many different plant, animals, bugs that are in the world that God likes variety.
so that is why we are different colors.

Eve was created out of Adam's rib so if God just happened to add a little barbeque sauce that would've made Eve a soft shade of brown.
Their children would have come out a nice Honey glazed color.

The bible never says what "race" Adam and/or Eve would most resemble, but the most likely possibility is that they were mid-brown (which is what most people are today), which would enable them to account for the complete range of skin color seen today.
