I think it's just a regular 'kid' thing. I suspect that if you make a fuss, you will inadvertently encourage it. In the big picture, it is harmless...perhaps for him it's just a natural act of youthful 'rebellion & challenge.' It's OK to tell him you would prefer he not do so and set some limits at his age. But try to find some balance at the same time and give him a chance to express himself\make and learn from his own experiences. Guide him, but also grant him his own space to learn and grow. Or, to put it another way, pick your 'fights" wisely. You are the parent and the one who loves and knows him best! Blessings..

I think if it's just a kid being a kid, it's great! Your son should be proud of himself, not worrying about what other people think of him. Personally if my son did that, I would only be worried about sunscreen. Kids are going to be kids! Even if your son is pudgy, do you REALLY want to teach him that the world will only care for him if he's thin?
When it's a little girl with her underwear showing on purpose and her shirt tied in a knot in the middle of her chest, I find THAT disgusting.

ok my son is 9 and around the house, or outside he doesnt wear a shirt ( in good weather outside) all yr long inside the house he hates having them on. My son is chubby but who cares he is a kid who is confident enough i say go boy! If your son is confident about his body ( regardless of size) you should be proud of him. If you are concerned about his weight, get him more involved in sports. ( i was a chubby child too). Its baby fat and most likely he will outgrow it when he is older.

I have a 14 year old son and I can't get him to ever wear a shirt - it drives me crazy. I have to even fight with him to put a shirt on at the dinner table! My son also doesn't care if it's cold, he still wont wear a shirt (except to school, etc).

i have an 8 year old bother who is kind of chubby, and i would find it kind of wierd if he wanted to walk around town without a shirt on, but if he wanted to i would let him i mean there is nothing really wrong with it.

i think if kids are outside playing being kids and get hot its no big deal.. however if u are going out in public they should wear proper attire. i allow all three of boys to play outside shirtless or in a wife beater. my two girls have to keep there privates covered but also run around in swim suits. my kids are 15,14,12, 9 and 7 . i think they are kids and should be treated like kids, let him have fun. i would like to say my boys are older and are not allowed to walk around town ..... we have a yard or i take them to the park. why is your 8 year old allowed to walk around town?

although we have adapted to clothes. it was a time where shirts worn by males was unheard of. so it is quite natural historically to be without shirts. so i think it is all based on opinion. I wouldnt let my son go to the mall like that though

Try buying a larger sized shirt. They are making shirts smaller than they use to, and some just flat out shrink! So, if you buy cotton fabric shirt, you can depend on it shrinking down.
Clothes should fit a child well. If they don't, buy another one that fits better!!!

I would never let my son walk around town without a shirt on no matter what his body shape. Quite tacky.
