Auto is an abreviation for automóvel , which means car. Automóvel is rather form and in daily talk almost no one uses it. Something like automobie in English.
Carro means car and is the usual word .

Autos is very seldomly used in Brazil. "Carros" is used in daily talk. Automoveis is somewhat more formal, as when you advertise that you sell cars.
