I owned three cars before getting my first SUV and I swear that I'll never buy a car again. I love my SUV and having 4wd and being higher on the road (can see better). Sometimes I do see a cute car and wonder how it would be to have a car again, but I get the thought out of my head quick, just knowing I'd regret it. I am actually looking for a bigger SUV now, it's like an addiction, lol. Just wondering if anyone has actually gone from SUV back to car, and how did that work out for you?

Yep...and I've regretted it everyday. I went from an Explorer to a 2005 Impala. I like the Impala, but a car will never be the same as a truck. I'm buying a new vehicle next year and it will probably be a truck....

I've never owned an SUV but I've driven them for rentals. The extra space is nice, as far as having more room in the cabin for the driver and passengers, and having more cargo space, but driving it felt too numb. Definitely not "fun". When I got back in my regular car I couldn't wait to take turns quickly again.
I'd consider getting a used SUV as a second car, but I don't think it could be my only vehicle. I know there are now SUVs/crossovers that purport to be "sporty" like the Mazda CX-7, but it's been my experience that these type of compromises don't usually satisfy either end of the spectrum.

Yes, me, I had a Jeep Wrangler, lot of fun. Then i sold it and leased a new BMW 325 xi. After driving it for about 1 month, i found that the car had a hesitation whenever you demanded sudden acceleration. The delay was variable but sometimes lasted as long as 3 seconds. Once, coming out of a shopping center i left turned in front of car 1 block away. The hesitation was so severe that the car caught up to me and started blowing the horn. Thats impossible because I am the hornblower not the hornblowee.
The dealer would not do anything about it so i sued them under the lemon law and got some money back from them. No BMWs in my life from here on. This car is not drivable and i gave it my wife to use around town. I rather drive a 98 toyota that responds to you properly. BMW needs to go back to the drawing boards and stop touting German Engineering as something good.

If you are interested in hybrid SUV's, then you should look at the 2008 Ford Escape. It gets 31 mpg on the freeway and 36 mpg in the city with a combined total of 34 mpg. It has great reliability, quiet ride, safe, and is just awesome! After all, the explorer has been the best selling small SUV in America since 2001. Has great reviews: http://autos.yahoo.com/ford_escape_hybrid-reviews_user/

Our family car used to be an ShUV (Short Utility Vehicle). My wife hated driving it in the high ocupancy lane on the freeway, because it felt ever-so-slightly unstable, and the divider wall seemed awfully close. And that was one of the better-handling SUVs.
She now drives the little BMW wagon, the 325iT, and is delighted with the difference.
If you switch from a truck to an Impala, what can I say. When you switch from canned beans to canned corn, don't expect it to taste like fresh picked Illini Extra-Sweet.

I've had a few SUVs. I do miss being above the traffic and the Bravada had all the bells and whistles plus OnStar, but I don't miss all-wheel drive (having to replace more than one tire when I get a flat), crappy gas mileage and the extra insurance. I love my Mustang and my wife has a BMW that I can't make her trade in.

If you like being a road hogging redneck driving in a potential death machine stick to the SUV.
SUVs\ 4WDs are built like trucks there for when they hit something smaller the risk of serious injury and or death to the occupants of that vehicle are very high, when they hit each other the risk to both occupants of both vehicles are high, they are dangerous to all road users and should be limited only to commerical use.

I had an S10 Blazer, and an S10 Pickup, I loved the style and the power of both of them, but, the gas mileage was what hurt! I believe cars are more efficient in that matter, aside from the new hybrid vehicles, etc.

Spacewise an SUV would be awesome, however I think with gas prices out of whack like they are it's just not possible for a lot of people to have them.

SUVs are unnecessary and getting rid of them is a big step to fixing all the s**t we've done to the earth.
