...And that all the other mythology in the world and throughout history is false?

It's pretty obvious that the power of the imagination is limitless; why do people, in the information age, claim ancient stories as existential truth? And why should I respect them when they do?

Well, I've received a lot of answers, but very few regarding the question I asked. It says a lot that so many got on the defensive so quickly.

True and it really seems like special pleading to say all the other myths are wrong but one happens to be true. It's like saying, "Batman, Green Goblin, Superman, those aren't real! But Spiderman? That really happened!"

And why do they cling to ancient guesswork when reality is obviously different and far more interesting.

I sometimes find myself getting a little frustrated with those who believe in just one revealed scripture. Then I quickly remember, that I was exactly the same way. I heard a spiritual teacher once say...."How did we begin.....when the sperm mixes with the ovum, it divides but it comes back together and develops in stage after stage(usually accompanied by pain) until a new life comes into the world... A life that has never been here before."

The Holy Q'uran, says it like this..."When revelation comes to the people, they become divided each one glorying in there part." If you notice, all of the organized religions of the world are touting their religion as the one.

So the question is.....How did we begin? We may be divided right now, but the very nature in wich we are created, says that we will become one after we go thru the neccessary stages of development/pain.

Why should you respect anyone who thinks that one mythological book compiled over a millennium ago is truth....?
Because they are obeying (whether they are aware or not) the very nature in which we are created. It is through that grace, that we are able to study and learn more about ourselves.

"The knowledge of self is the knowledge of God. And the knowledge of God is the knowledge of self." HMLF.

According to Webster's Dictionary--"myth" a usually traditional story of ostensibly (intended for display or open to view) historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon
In your question you state that the book was compiled. If this was compiled by several persons you should be able to confirm their existence and research the truth of their writings, if truth is what you are after.
You continue with the comment on the power of imagination. The ancient stories of Hercules, Thor , Isis and others;; how do you 'think' they came about as stories and have been passed down through the millenniums.
It is true,, these were and are 'stories'. If you have studied the constellations of the stars you know why the 'stories' came to be told. It was the phenomenon of the movement of the stars and constellations that brought about discussions. The ancients took notes of those movements and learned. These were then passed down as stories. You yourself were told stories when you were a child that formed your knowing of how to behave as a friend, how to look upon your world and to discern right from wrong and to show respect.
It is your choice! Can you prove to them why you won't or don't respect them for their thinking?
Have you ever seen,,other than a picture of,, the mythical animal represented as a monstrous winged and scaly serpent with a crested head and enormous claws......I have .......look into the constellations as studied by the orientals.

you are going right. i agree with u. the holy books are just fake.
i to disagree that they are true. i will give u proof.
bible and ramayana says that the earth is the center of the universe all other planets including stars revolve around it.
hindu gods- shiva, brahma, vishnu they all have metal weapons but metal itself is discovered in bronze age. what they have before that.
there are other proof also which we will not mention here. now i will come to the point.
now think a situation that u r coming home and somebody is constantly observing u. u did not know about that person. but after sometime u know that somebody is observing u,and u automaticaly point out that person. who tell u this. how could u know that somebody is constantly watching. inside u>.
now u know about game, name :- age of empire rise of rome we assume that the villager has the ability to think. for that villager u r the god. u can kill him, create one, u can controll the militry etc etc. the game has the ability to cheat. type stormbilly on chat screen a robot comes out from the town . the robot is very powerfull. it is very hard to kill him. if the villagers in age of empire have the ability to think then they will consider him as a god or jesus christ or ram or shiv.
u will not go inside the cpu to help those villagers.
thus at last i want to say that not all the myth are false. there will be some truth somewhere which is hidden in holi books

there were another aspect also i can explain it afterwards. if interested mail me meenal_toll@yahoo.com

The "mythology" you speak of was written largely by intelligent human beings who deserve our respect as much as anyone.

This is not just one book, there are many ancient scriptures containing many truths that deserve our attention... it's about giving our ancestors a vote.

Legend and mythology are a genre that many in today's "information age" fail to understand.

Do we have wars and rumors of wars?
Is the world getting worse are people getting more evil?
I can answer all of this, it is all wrote down in the Bible and compiled over a millennium ago and its coming true every day.

Not all Christians reject science facts. I don't and see no reason to.

I also can't see any reason to reject a centuries-old book that contains some mythology, some history and a lot of wisdom about God.

why should I respect (or maybe I should say trust, because I respect everyone- trust is a different issue) anyone who has lived less than 50 years, has no more capacity for knowledge and understanding than I do, and uses nothing more than their own limited knowledge and experience to discern truth and the order of the world?? How is it that oyur ideas, information, imagination, and understanding which is based only on your experience and knowledge more valuable than mine?
