Seriously, take him to your local shelter. Puppies and kittens usually only stay there long enough to be sure they're healthy. They are adopted out very quickly.

1. If the puppy is of a specific breed, go on Petfinder.com and find a breed rescue near your zip code.
2. If the puppy is a mixed breed, contact the local veterinarian offices and ask permission to put up a poster advertising the puppy's availability. INCLUDE A PICTURE.
While a shelter/kennel MAY be ok, if they're crowded for room -- and most of them are at this time of year when college students "dispose" of the pets they irresponsibly got during the school year -- they will kill the puppy.
You can also advertise at pet stores -- those that do NOT sell live puppies and kittens. Petco and PetSmart are your best bet.
I advise AGAINST advertising in the paper or on internet lists OTHER than Petfinder.com. I'm assuming you want the puppy to have a GOOD home -- a FOREVER home. People answering ads aren't filling out an application, aren't having their home evaluated for suitability, and are a high risk of failure. PLEASE find a rescue. That is the safest and best bet for your puppy.

These are your options: 1. a PRICE and an ad in the paper for him. A. Alot of times we may not know someone who wants something we have so we can't give it away but put a price on it and advertise, you can usually sell it. NEVER give it away for free. How do you think dogfighters get something live to tease fighting dogs with?--Dog and Cat free ads! So sell your puppy. B. If he has papers call a breeder first to see if they want him/her, or take puppy back to the place that sold it to you and see if they will take it back at half price
2. If #1 fails you will need to look up no-kill shelters or pug or whatever breed you have, rescues in the phone book or best of all, in a web search and contact them to take the dog. They won't give you anything for your puppy but they also won't kill it. They will look for a good home, sell it to someone after they have spayed or neutered it and gotten it all of its shots and then they will hope to make $1 or 2 from the sale, to keep going and saving other pets.

You bred the litter or bought him and can't keep him?
If you are going to properly screen people, put up a notice at the vet office, things like that.
If you are just going to just give him to the first person that comes along that wants him, then turn him over to the local shelter, let them find him a proper home.
Spay/neuter your pets!

Put him in the news papers in your local area and say that you are giving a puppy away...that is what I did when I had too many cats and now they are all gone.
