At 14, your dog was nearing the end of her natural lifespan. You could have given her the milk thistle and watched her throw it up. How much use would that have been? How long does it take for a liver to regenerate? I think you did the right thing. I would have done the same. There comes a point where we have to say enough is enough, and live with the decision. Your dog was luckier than most, she was 14 and had her own vet. So don't beat yourself up. Remember the 14 happy years and move on.

Dragging the butt is usually said to be a side effect of worms but if the feces is clear then it is more than likely blocked anal glands.
Grab a wad of cotton wool and cover the anus and massage and squeeze both sides, of the anus, at the same time.
Squeezing will unblock the gland and the liquid will shoot out, and oh boy does it smell.
If not confident take the dog to the vets and watch him do it, you will know for next time then.

No, it isn't true...you don't always see worms in the stool..this is why a dog needs regular fecal tests done by a vet.
Also worms most usually don't cause a dog to drag it's butt..the most common cause of scooting is an anal sac issue. Make an appointment with your vet to get them checked out..they may need to be expressed.

Take her to the vet. It sounds like it's her anal glands bothering her and she is trying to express them herself with no luck. Or it could be worms. The only way to find out is to have her examined by a vet. Good luck

All dogs have anal gland in their rectums. These glands fill with a fluid that in day long ago were used to sent their stools and to mark territory. If your dog is scotting her butt then it's time to get her into the vets to have these glands check and expressed of the build up of fluid. It's really stinky smelling so this is a job left to a vet.

She wants her anal glands expressed. Your vet can tell you how to do it yourself! Doesn't that sound like fun?
I guess not. Your vet or groomer will be able to do it for you. It's quick and inexpensive. It could be a different problem, so you might want to consult your vet, but butt-dragging is a tell tale sign that your dogs anal glands are just dying to express themselves.

Yes you can see worms in dog feces IF they have them. HOWEVER, when a dog drags it butt (called scooting) it probably means that it's itchy because it has some dirt in that area (probably leftover poop). One of my puppies had problems expressing his anal glands causing him to have a hard time pooping. Poop would constantly be on his butt and he would try to scoot it off all day long. All it took was a shot every other month to relieve this problem. If your dog doesn't have anything in the butt area, then he's probably just itchy, if you're really worried, ask your vet, but I doubt it's a big problem.

Yes, she probably has worms. Yes, you should take her to the vet. No, you can't always see worms; either they are very small, their eggs or small, or they haven't shed in that batch of feces.
Otherwise, she could just have an itchy bum, or a desire to clear her anal gland.
