Are you looking for caterers, florists, photographers, planners, invitations, dresses, tuxes, accessories, rentals, designers, lighting, etc. Which ones do you gravitate towards first? What's the most important to you? What's the least important?

For my wedding, the most important reason I went was to see new bridesmaid dress styles and to check out new ideas for decorations or flowers etc! I already knew where mine would be, my husband's family Antebellum home! I knew who was doing the food, our best friends own a catering company! I did my own planning (I get paid to do it for other people already!) Rentals were already taken care of also, because my dad used the company already for his work!
And I thought I had my florist, but I changed to one that REALLY impressed me at the show! So mainly, I wanted to find dresses for my girls more than anything!

Rai, I just got married 8 days ago to my soul mate; she is beautiful, caring, loving and the most wonderful soul a man could ask for.

Do you know why? I'll tell you.

We got married by a lake, in our bare feet, wearing the clothes we wore the first time we saw each other. It wasn't about caterers, florists, photographers, planners, invitations, dresses, tuxes, accessories, rentals, designers, lighting, etc.

It was about US.

My advice to you is to have a marriage, and not worry about having a wedding. Write your own vows like we did, talk from the heart, and build your future on the feelings in your heart and soul. Save the money on the extravagance for the home and for your future.

First of all, why do you want to know? Are you a Bride to be? If so, congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. Bridal shows can open up a variety of options on all the sections you mentioned before, and depending on what you are looking for to do on your special day, they can provide you with services you would have a hard time finding on the yellow pages.
But FIRST: Set up your budget. Then pick a date, the type of ceremony you want, and think about the kind of reception you'd like and can afford.
In all those shows the first question they ask you is "when is your wedding day?"
I suggest you enjoy the show, pick up business cards, brouchoures and all the information you need. Then when you have thought about details you would like to have on your wedding, call them up (ie: live music vs. dj, etc).
Also if you like packages, the shows are the best to find companies that do a lot of things at once for you, from stationary to decorations.
But beware, many of these companies will give you information about their packages and knowing what you can spend will make it easier for you to refuse unnecessary paperwork, subscriptions and brouchoures they'll give. You don't want to go home with 30 pounds of paper in your hand.
Happy browsing!

It depends where I am at in the planning stage.

The first time I went to one, I was just looking for names to interview in the future.

The second time I went, I was looking for 2 different vendors.

The least important is that they sell our names. I HATE bridal shows now because of it. You can just as much info from a bridal magazine from your area and NOT have your name sold then to go to a bridal show and end up with 30 calls a week to be invited to scam events.

It depended on which stage of the planning I was at. For the first one, it was pretty much for decor ideas. For the second one, it was favors, decorations, and all those extras!
Just as an aside, don't enter the draws for giveaways. Vendors at bridal shows and trade shows in general are notorious for selling mailing lists, so you'll be getting tons of spam and junk mail = pretty icky of them.
Happy planning! Wear comfy shoes!

When we went to our first one, we looked at everything.

Then we had a meeting with a potential ceremony/reception site and that took out a LOT of things that we needed to look for.

Now all we really need to worry about are the rings, the attire, the favors, the invitation/thank you cards, and the honeymoon and transportation.

All of them are important as far as they are in your list. Just consider this: having the budget for everything on your wedding, the most expensive should be the one to handle with more care.

Good luck!!
