Wondering about what people think of what happened in florida about inmates being forced to lick toilets and eat their food from the floor.

I think it's great that it's being investigated and a bit surprised. It's too easy for guards to get away with this type of thing when people who think that people in jail should be treated like animals.

When I've been in jail I've seen some guards having a go but not like this. Hope the inmates get some sort of compensation for this as it is just abuse.

To all of the people above who don't have sympathy for the situation, there's this thing called the Bill of Rights, and it even applies to people convicted of crimes. It's part of our Constitution. Look into it.

If you don't like it, maybe you should be living in another country, where they don't have civil rights, and where they cut off hands for stealing bread, or torture prisoners, or set people on fire. We're supposed to be a civilized country. I can't believe some of the responses.

Yes, the prisoners should get compensation for it, and the guards responsible for this should be fired and prosecuted.

EDIT: to sherryn. If the prisoners had refused, they would have been beaten to a pulp. What do you think guards carry nightsticks and tasers for? A fashon statement?

Im sure the inmates do worse to each other than the prison guards could ever do. And Ive been in jail, no not as a prisoner, the guards do not carry nightsticks or tasers, you know why? Imagine the damage that would be caused should a prisoner get ahold of one. I think the prison guards should be scared of the prisoners, as they are severely outnumbered. Not saying what the prison guards did was right, some prison guards can be assholes and some are good people.

I'm sure that have put their mouths on dirtier things than those toilets. Besides, if they were cleaned correctly to begin with, there wouldn't be a problem, now, would there? Get real. Jail ain't supposed to be a nice place. It's a place that a person should never want to go back to. Maybe this will be a good form of rehabilitation to some of the animals who are locked up & constantly re-offending just to get put back into 3 hots & a cot! ADDED: A lot of things shouldn't be allowed to happen in this world. Get over it & start living your life like a person who cares. Talk is cheap. I've been to jail too. Once was all it took for me to see where I was headed. I'll never get any compensation because they did me a favor by locking me up! The morons who licked those toilets could have refused to do so. What's gonna happen to them if they don't? Are they gonna get arrested again? No. They need to wake up in there.

I shake my head when I see guards pull stupid stunts like this. This job is NOT a power trip. We have a duty to the safety and security of the inmates as well as the general public. So much of this job is based on respect. Give it and you will get it. At least 70% of inmates respond to basic human kindness.

they convey it on themselves! they're giving muslim inmates particular scientific care. to illustrate I study some weeks in the past how muslim inmates are annoying muslim in elementary terms reformatory officers and refusing to adapt with 'standard' reformatory regulations utilising faith and human rights as an excuse. If u inquire from me if u harm the regulation and are imprisoned u ought to in elementary terms have the uncomplicated rights besides, like nutrition, water and uncomplicated exercising centers. Why are they letting muslim inmates call for those circumstances? they're inflicting issues for themselves by comprimising with them. anybody must be dealt with the comparable in reformatory even with faith and so on. they ought to easily make stronger up and lock them up 24 hours an afternoon if mandatory.

Has no one seen the irony of people who ignored the law now wanting it to protect them?

Personally, if I were in charge of prisons, they wouldn't even have toilets anyway. I see no reason they can't grow their own food, draw their own water from wells they dug themselves, and dig their own latrines or have outhouses.

Saves on cleaning supplies in my opinion.

To the person below:

I'm not saying it's right, or that it shouldn't be investigated. It's just that, I don't care.

If this behavior is going on it should be stopped, but compensation? No way.
