hopefully, but for me, it made me gain weight, but that was muscle.
so if you do gain weight, dont be afraid, use the measuring tape around your waist as a measure if youve lost fat or not.
also dont do it everyday, your body will adapt to it and it will become less effective, trying doing cycling on one day, then next do jogging, then skipping etc.
and diet is important, make sure you eat the same.

seriously, i only do cycling and i've lost 20lbs and i'm not even fat (and as we know the fatter you are, the easier the weight comes off and the skinnier you are the more difficult it is to drop the weight). So, that alone says it all.

Your friend is wrong; any form of exercise, especially if it's vigorous (makes you sweat) will help you lose weight. But more important is the arm exercise: pushing yourself away from the table before you've stuffed yourself.

cycling (stationary bike) is a good cardio and cardio is the only fat burning exercise - do it 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min). never go over 60min - it does more bad than good to your body and sweat as much as you can.
your friend has no clue...

of course it will - as long as you are getting your heart rate up into the fat burning zone you will def burn calories. used to do some serious mountain biking, fit as a fiddle, toned and 10 tens better than a stuffy gym. go for it, let your friend get fat!
