If not then why do we feel pain when we touch a hot stove? Why do we have amnesia after having brain damage?

Soul is not physical. But, it records and understands the material life. Is a memory merely a chemical part of the brain?
Think of a computer. Is the Operating System the same as the hardware? It works with the hardware, but it's not the same.

I have had amnesia. (Emergency surgery type of stuff) There is a "bond" that is known by the soul, which the brain loses when the memory is lost. But the soul still has an "understanding". It took me a long time to realize that my soul was aware of things my brain had forgotten.

Our soul is an intangible being housed in a body. Memories belong to the being just like our arms and legs belong to our body, and just as if something happens to our arms or legs and we lose the use of them, so if something happens to the place where memory is housed we lose the use of the memory housed there. Just my thinking.

The soul is not the seat of feelings, that is in your nervous system. It is the seat of self awareness.

feelings are emotions.... feeling pain is a physical reaction
the two are different
and as I understand it anyway and what I am taught
is that there is a spiritual counterpart for our physical body
and it is this counterpart that survives bodily death
including memories

did you forget..a brain can be dead and body on machine..is alive.
