first of all every day as soon as i wake up i go straight outside 2 play with my gsd who is a 6 month old puppy and my 1 and a half year old terrier mix and after i play with em i take them 4 a walk
(im 15 years old) and everytime i go outside i look at them and they run 2 me and jump on me u know the usual things dogs do when they're excited
well 2day when i went outside i decide not 2 even make eye contact with my dogs so when i opened the door and didnt give eye contact they actually were relaxed and didnt run 2 all wild and pumped up as usual and i waz surprised,
y is it that when i give eye contact 2 them thats when they get all excited and jump on me but when i dont they just walk 2 me and dont show any sign of pumped up energy or excitement??

MMCROBISM is pretty close to correct. You have established yourself as the alpha member of your dogs' pack. You are their king, as it were. When you make eye contact they are being told it is okay to approach the king and interact with him. When you do not initiate eye contact they have not been recognized by the king so they approach quietly so as to not int erupt or irritate the king BUT let the king know we are here if he gets a chance to acknowledge us.
This is a good thing and the only way to live with dogs. At 15 (or for any dog owner) you are to be commended. Keep it up. Never relinquish your control. For fun see how they react to others in your family. Stay out of sight and see how they treat mom or dad or sis when they come into the yard. Are they uninhibited (excited eye contact or not) uninterested, ignore, aggressive. Try and figure out where the dogs think they stand in the pecking order of your pack which includes everybody right on down to the cat.

You approached them exactly how you should approach any dog! That's awesome that you figured that out for yourself, most people aren't aware of the effects that they're behaviour has on dogs!
By not making eye contact, you established yourself as alpha or top dog of the pack. If your interested in learning more about our dog behaviour and human body language check out Cesar Millan's web page : www.dogpsychologycenter.com
He also has a show on the National Geographic channel called The Dog Whisperer. If you liked the results you achieved on your own, you'll love the stuff that Cesar can teach you!

This goes back to the wolf pack when they return from a hunt tehy great each other with eye contact which causes teh reaction by not giving tehm teh eye contact you were telling them tht there was nothing to get excited about.
anytin=me you give eye contact you can ask for a reaction and with dogs tht dont' know you they can at times take it as a challenge. you should never look a dog straight in the eye as it's considered a challenge.
good luk and hope they are fixed.

dogs are "pack animals" and have leaders of the pack, YOU. If you make eye contact with them, you, as the leader, are telling them "Ok come to me." If you don't make eye contact, you are telling them, "I am the boss, stay calm" When the leader says 'lets go!" then the rest of the pack will happily oblige. Take your dogs to training sessions, you will surprised at how much better they behave.

I think that is how dogs talk If you watch a pack you can easly tell it is all about boddy jestures. When you go in with play on youre mind they read you and when you go in stern they read that too
You liston well to them maby you should be a trainer

it is your energy they sensed. if you walk out there all excited and crazy, the dogs will react the same way.

If it appears to your dogs that you don't care what's going on, they'll naturally be more mellow and relaxed. They take their cues from you.
