Hello, I just put flea spot on my cat and the way he was laying when I was doing it ( he was fighting me the whole time ) it looked like I was putting it on the back of his neck, when I finshed , I noticed I had actually put it on the side of his neck near his shoulder and cheek. He can almost lick it which I know is not good, So I'm wondering.. Do I wash it off or leave it alone? Will he be fine?

the box doesnt really list all the ingredients but does say it has (S)-Methoprene and Etofenprox the rest are labeled simply as "other ingredients"

if this helps any.

Hi I am a Vet Tech at a feline only practice, and what you described happens all the time.

Leave it alone, it will still absorb. He will be fine. If he does happen to lick some of it, or another cat in your household licks him, don't worry if you see one of them foaming at the mouth. The medicine is very bitter and it will cause them to slobber and spit.

keep a bowl of ice water handy for him to rinse his mouth, and you can tissue the slobber off his face.

The only thing to be concerned about is to watch his eye. If the topical medication gets into his eye, dampen a clean wash cloth with cool water, and wipe from the inner corner out. You might have to repeat if the eye starts to look red and puffy.

He should be ok, this happens all the time at my work and normally the only reaction they have is salivation. Do not wash it off it will absorb on its own the only time you need to step in is if you notice that your cat is behaving strangely (neurological) some cats reacts different and there are brands out there that cause neuro toxicity if to much is given or if the cats consumes it.
If he is ok in the next 12hours then he will be fine.

depends on the flea prep ??
some are toxic if cats lick them anything with permethrin or pymethrins in it should be washed off immediatley as can cause serious cns signs
if it is fiprinol or somethin g similar should be ok as soon as dry so obviously need to keep an eye until dried most flea preps just cause hypersalivation and nothing else but worst case scenarios can cause seizures comas and death so if in doubt wash it off

he should be fine if he licks it all he might do is foam a littleat the mouth from teh taste and this may cause him to vomit a littel. keep an eye on him and if he gets lethargis or really sick to his stomache take to the vets. but I dont' think you need to worry
