I loved the icons in Church. I studied their deeper meanings as a young adult and found the work fascinating. They do their intended job of inspiring awe, etc. We had them in the Byzantine Catholic Church too.
Christ the Pantocrator was my fave... which is why I'm such a sucker for Laptop Jesus' avatar.

I'm Roman Catholic. I've never gone to an Orthodox church, but I know we get criticized for having statues and paintings. I don't pray to statues. I pray to the One they represent. I just use the statue to focus my thoughts so that I don't get distracted.

my parents are orthodox so i have gone to an orthodox church.
i don't like the icons. i don't like the colors. i don't like the faces, they look like really serious and mad. like i have done something wrong and Jesus wants to yell at me..you know..
i prefer catholic icons cause the colors are lighter..

They're quite pretty, actually...
Much prettier and more imaginative than the icons I have on my computer, at any rate.
