Usually, at least lately, people have been killing or just straight abandoning their pets due to the economy. The owners feel that they don't want to waste the $75 or whatever, to bring the animal to the shelter. Then there are some cases where people just go around killing any and all animals that they can find just for the sport of it. I am hoping, though it is cruel, that the first one is the case here, but you can never be sure until the person is found, which probably won't happen, as the police have other cases to worry about.

Call the county trustee or your town's sanitation system. Or you could bag the poor thing yourself or have a friend do it (one that is willing!).
Before you dispose of it, you might want to do a check around your neighborhood (or any close houses nearby) to see if it was their cat. Whoever owned it may want to dispose of it their own way.
To the 2nd answerer: in some places, it is not alloud to bury a larger animal privately, for it may cause sanitation problems.

Please do not dispose of it on your own.. This may be someones pet who has gone missing. If it were your cat you wouldn't want it thrown away in the trash.
Every community has an animal control official. They will dispose of the body, but will also search the body for shelter tattoos or AVID chips, and if there does turn out to be an owner they will noitfy them.

I recommend calling your local animal services office or the Providence Office of Neighborhood Services at (401) 421-7768. They should be able to direct you where to go.

I think you should ask everybody in your neighborhood if they are missing a cat. If so, describe the cat... and so on. If it doesn't belong to anybody, pray for it and call the animal control to take it away. They'll probably give it a nice burial place.

I would call the Animal Control, if you do not pick up the cat they most certainly will tell you who to call.

Hi,
It depends on how your city is set up to handle these things.
Here (Podunk Texas :) you can call the city's Animal Control dept. (listed under city government) and they will send someone out to get it. If your animal control guys won't do it ask THEM who will. Sometimes the local animal shelter will pick up dead animals.
Personally, I own a small pet cemetery and I would pick it up for a small fee if you couldn't find anyone else to - but your city should have someone on their payrolls for that.
Good Luck. If nothing more, bury the kitty yourself, it deserves some respect.

Take the cat to a local vet or call animal control. They will take the cat for you. Otherwise you can drive to a forest preserve and bury it somewhere. Please respect the poor kitty and do not throw in the trash...he/she could have been a child's lost pet. Please call animal control or bury. Thank you!
