Situps are bad for the lower back. Crunches exercise the same muscle group with at least as much intensity without that risk. But while both will tone your "six pack," neither will help you lose your belly fat; in fact, the whole idea of zone targeted weight loss is a myth. Your belly fat will go away with the rest of your fat with a well planned program of diet and exercise.

Just because you do sit-ups, and crunches doesn't mean you will lose fat around your mid-section. It is scientifically proven that the stomach is on of the hardest places on the body to lose fat.
When you do sit-ups and crunches all you are doing is working out those muscles. What you need to do to lose weight around your midsection is diet, and to exercise. Exercise does include sit-ups and crunches, lots of Cardio, and any other work out you would like to do. And if you do decide to diet, make sure you choose a diet that is right for you.
The link below will direct you to a web page with great ab exercises that anyone can do.

Cardio is the way to burn fat, though you also have to tone your abs with exercises like crunches and situps if you want to see visible abs (not to mention follow a healthy diet).
For lower abs, concentrate on exercise that involve lifting the legs up, like hanging leg raises, incline reverse crunches, and lying scissor kicks.
Remember that while you can target muscles to tone, you can't spot-trim fat. It'll disappear on its own terms, so to speak, as you lose weight.

Ok first off just doing situps and crunches will not get rid of your extended waist line.
They will only help tone the muscled under your cushoning layer (bellyfat).
My advice to help you rid yourself of the ever present padding, is a diet change and doing an aerobic exercise.
The main key to loosing cushoning is the diet abd aerobic exersise. Combine the aerobic exercise, a sensible diet and the crunches/sit ups. then you will be well on your way to loosing your goal.
But I must also stress that it is always wise to consult your doctor before doing any exercises... best to find out any issues before you run into problems :-)

Watch this video at http://www.customizedfatloss.link to learn how you can lose belly fat and get six pack abs in a short period of time. It will blow your mind. I was able to lose the belly fat and get ripped in only 6 weeks.
You will also have access to a fully customizable online weight loss software system which uses body type, age, sex, weight and current fitness level to determine the most appropriate amount of food to eat and when. It also includes a training program specific to your body type. Good luck!

Crunches. Sit-ups cause stress on the lower back. Try placing your body with hands and knees on the floor breath-in and arch your back, hold for 1 second, exhale and bring your knee in toward your chest. Also, stand straight and suck your belly button in towards your stomach rapidly for a count of 20. You may not feel it right away but you should after a day or so.

No exercise can target fat in any particular area. Situps and crunches will develop your abdominal muscles, and that's good, but you need to generally lose weight. Increase your physical activity, and decrease your food intake.

none of those will help you lose fat - they only build muscle and will make it look bigger since there is gona be more muscle underneath the layer of fat.
cardio is the only fat burning exercise - burns fat all over your body - do it 4-6 times a week for 30-50min and combine with light weight training to tone muscle and not lose it (more muscle=faster metabolism)

Mom Knows Everything is correct.
you can do a gajillion crunches and have abs of steel but they won't show if they are covered in fat and the only way to get rid of fat is to burn more calories than you consume.

Walks are good to get rid of thigh jiggle :) I would chose sit-ups, but they are more effective being done every other day to give th muscles a break so you don't hurt anything. I would start at however many you can do and try and increase that number by 2 sit-ups evey time you do them. Good luck!
