when I switch the camera on all I can see is alot of interferance like squiggly lines -what is this?I have replaced the batteries and used Duracell ones

It sound's like you either have a problem with the screen or you have an electrical short in the camera! either way it's time to bring the camera in for repair and it will not be a cheep fix!

Check their website. I think that's the model of camera I have, and there is a manufacturing flaw in it. If that's the one, they will fix it for free, even if it's warranty has expired.
