Playing the organ and leading the choir at a Catholic church was only one of her jobs. Linette Servais, a very well-balanced woman if I may say so, also sold sex toys at home parties (sort of like Tupperware and Avon have.) She's in her fifties, says they helped her after cancer made it hard for her to enjoy sex, and says they help other women, too. Her priest says they're "inconsistent with Catholic teachings", and several choir members have quit in protest.

I for one think she's probably helped more women see God with these toys than with the choir, but that's just my mind sliding to the gutter. :-)

That story broke my heart. I'm a convert to Catholicism, I believe and profess all that the holy Catholic Church believes, teaches, and proclaims to be revealed by God, I accept the Church's teachings on sexuality, my husband and I do not use contraception, and I have never encountered these "Church teachings" the priests alleges prohibit the use of marital aids. I challenge anyone to find such a teaching in a Church document.
John Kippley of the Couple to Couple League wrote a paper that contains "norms [that] are a combination of the official teaching of the Catholic Church and the common opinion of Catholic moral theologians who accept the official teaching of their Church." The paper "has been reviewed and-approved by several moral theologians, both priests and lay."
Kippley identifies the "practice of clitoral stimulation to assist a wife to experience orgasm either before or after the husband's ejaculation in the vagina, that is, as part of normal marital relations" as "very acceptable." The paper never condemns the use of vibrators, which for some women is the only way they can experience orgasm.
In short, I think the priest is wrong.

I think the whole thing is a crock. She has the right to do any kind of business she wants to, and people have the right to buy any product they want to. HOWEVER, the Catholics have always thought they have the power over the rest of the world. Thye tell you not to use birth control too, but they aren't there to raise the kids for you! I was married at one time to a Catholic and there fore no longer like that religion!

I think the decision should be made by the Church's guidelines. Do I like that idea? No, but each sect have their codes.
I wonder how they feel when a gynecologist provides a female with one to help prevent vaginal atrophy?

in the case of women who've had cancer problems ... i dont think there's anything wrong with what she did... after all she provided the sexual aids to married women who were consenting adults.
in reading the link i understand that the women of the choir quit in protest to her being fired as punishment for trying to help other women like herself.
and i find myself agreeing with some of the commenters on that link.

All I can think of is maybe since the priest can't have any nooky, he doesn't want the people who can to enjoy it.
I don't recall anything in the bible saying "thou shalt not enjoy sex" or "that shalt not employ the use of vibrators".

They are not marital aids, they are porno paraphernalia. She should change jobs. The idea that people need "toys" to have sex is ridiculous. If people have problems with a sexual nature, they should get down on their knees and pray to the author of all human sexuality for help. God understands us very well and he can turn something that is a problem into something that is beautiful. The rest is just lust.

good on her. I suppose at her 'advanced age', catholic belief is that... she can no longer have kids, so should no longer even think of sex never mind indulge in toys. remember, sex is not for fun!!

No. She shouldn't have been fired. She was spreading joy and love! Isn't that the Christian way?
