I think it depends on what ones you are using, I personally think that the classic rose and jojoba ones are best, I have tried the Herbal Essences Rainforest Flowers in the red bottle to smooth hair, but it made my hair feel like straw.

I have a curly mess of hair that goes down to the middle of my back. I love the conditioner because it allows me to easily get a brush through my mane. It also hydrates my curls enough so that they look nice when I wear them down (with lots of mousse of course). The products make my hair smell awesome too. My husband is always randomly smelling my hair. ;)

I think the product leaves your hair more greasy than others I have tried.
