Insha'Allah, I eat using my right hand especially when eating from a "community bowl" (large bowls of food shared by all present as part of a common or community meal.) Depending upon the food that is being served, I may eat traditionally with my fingers, or with my fingers and a peice of bread, For most meals, I will use either a fork or a spoon as such is deemed proper and correct in most western countries and the societies of the same.
Prayer before a meal is usually offered individulaly and in silence. Traditionally, one would begin this as one should begin all activities by saying, "Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim (In the Name of Allah/God, the Merciful, the Most Merciful)". This would be followed by "Alhumdilillah (All praise be to Allah/God" with a prayer of thankfulness of the food you are about to receive as well as for the sustanence provided by Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala (Allah/God, Glorious and Almighty) and a prayer that it is the Will of Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala to continue to provide you with the same.
Conversations is a very important part of every meal both in thanksgivings to Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala and with ones brothers and sisters as well as with one's children. To impliment this, we eat slowly, courteously and with dignity. We eat what we are being offered in gratituded.
At the end of the meal, indivudals may and should again give thanks to Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala. All should help in cleaning up after the meal (both men and women).
Ma'a salaam.
