There is an on-line grooming course available at:
universalclass.com
It's relatively inexpensive to take the course.

If you've never groomed an animal before and you suddenly want to try.....you HAVE to be extremely careful, you could cut them or give them serious burns from the blades. Get a puppy cut or whats called a Kennel cut, that cuts the hair fairly short and you would only have to do it around every 4-5 months. Still pricey, sure, but less risk of injury.

The best is just to keep thourpgjly bruched between groomings. Poodle are high maintanence and they ned to be grromed on a regular basis.
Depending on your dog grooming with clippers can be dangerous as they move and you can cut them.
tehre are certain breeds that need to be groomed on a regular basis and the poodle is one.
Good luck

Do you have any PetsMarts where you are? This is where my parents go to get their dogs groomed. Between groomings, they are given baths and brushed, and trimmed around the eyes and mouth with a sharp pair of kid sized scissors. It keeps them comfortable.
It does add up, but it is SO much better than shedding!:-)

Usually if you take a dog to the Petsmart grooming center it won't cost too much and they are very good with animals and my dogs always look their best when they come home from there.

Buy the clippers and do it yourself. I groom my miniature schnauzer and cocker spaniel because they're hair grows so fast...and with groomers charging $45 per trip...ridiculous.
