If so, what form of ID do they need?

No, government-issued picture ID is not required until they are 18 years of age...UNLESS they are going internationally than a passport will be required for everyone regardless of age...

If the child has a school ID it never hurts to have them bring it but again its not required...

If it is a domestic flight ( including Puerto Rico) they do not need to show any ID. At the Security checkpoint they will want to see ID from the adults ( 18 yrs and older). The thirteen year old will only have to show his/her boarding pass.

Only if the 13 year old is going to another country then they will need a birth certificate and a state issued photo I.D.
