I was just wondering if the threat of not only skin cancer but also wrinkles deters anyone from tanning? If you do tan, why do you tan when there are such risks involved?

I use to tan intentionally, but stopped this year. I still spend a lot of time outside- gardening, fishing, hiking etch... but I always make sure to wear sunblock with an SPF of 30

Oh I never tan. My Mother is very lightskinned/redheaded and my Dad full Native American. I am surprisingly pale and intend to stay that way.

Simply put: a tan may look cute and "healthy" now but wrinkles, brown spots, rough skin and perhaps even skin cancer do literally come to surface with age. If anyone doubts this please do watch "10 Years Younger" on TLC. Why in the world would you want to look like a leather bag at age forty five?

I used to tan, but stopped 20 years ago. I am 42 ( I was 41 last summer when it happened) and got carded going onto a riverboat casino. They say they card you if you look under 30. So I think not tanning is why I look younger than my age. I only have tiny little corner of the eye lines, and when I see them, I wonder how I would look if I had not tanned as a teen. I think you made a good choice in quitting.

I use a tanning bed one or two months out of the year. I don't even want to be tan. I go because the endorphins from the UVs are extremely uplifting. It would be the same for someone who smokes cigarettes- they know it is bad for them but the actual satisfaction out weighs the negative affect. Whenever I am out in the real sun I limit my exposure and use sunscreen.

I don't tan, I have had some horrible sun burns in my life. Because I am vain I am most worried about wrinkles. Be sure to reapply sun block after a couple hours.

I don't, especially because of the history of skin cancer in my family, but that doesn't mean that I don't get tanned, even though I don't want to, but eventually I do.

I tan because it is more harmful to tan in a tanning bed then naturally. usually I try to get a tan because it makes you look silmer, and it really doesn't help to put on sunscreen for me because i get burnt then as to when I don't wear sunscreen
