police officer who accidentally shot and killed a colleague in the police station has been awarded a pension and medical coverage for life.
Experts said that former Easton Police Officer Matthew Renninger is psychologically disabled from the shooting.
The $900-a-month award comes after a six-to-one vote Friday of the police pension board, whose members include four police officers. The 38-year-old Renninger has not returned to work since the shooting two years ago, which killed 36-year-old Jesse Sollman, a fellow SWAT team member.
Mayor Phil Mitman, who cast the dissenting vote, said Renninger failed to follow protocol and does not deserve the lifetime award.
The victim's widow has filed a $20 million lawsuit against both Renninger and the city.

Your question is should Officer Who Shot And Killed Colleague Get Lifetime Pension Medical Coverage For Life?
My answer is: ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS!
Just like when you go to confessional and pray to God to admonish your sins. The big man upstairs deal with you on a case -by-case basis also.

Your question is phrased a, "police officer who ACCIDENTALLY shot and killed a colleague." (emphasis added)
You then detail that his disabled status will yield him approximately $ 900.00/ month [which is the equivalent of working at McDonalds part-time].
I am saddened by your loss. But accidental tragedies are just that...accidental. Unless you can establish intent or gross negligence, you don't really have a case.
Since I am not your lawyer, I would suggest obtaining one if you wish to pursue this matter.

I certainly have continuously been an recommend for letting the punishment extra healthful the crime. possibly somewhat of the dying penalty, this scumbag ought to have his spinal twine severed and compelled to stay as a quadriplegic. of direction that still leaves the problem of being shot interior the face 4 cases via a .40 high quality at close selection and enduring each and all of the surgical procedures that Officer Gonzalez has had to stand. possibly the dying penalty is superb, yet none of that rapid somewhat painless (via assessment to Officer Gonzalez discomfort and suffering) deadly injection, or electric powered chair. the classic chinese language had a punishment that each and every day the prisoner had a physique section bumped off, beginning with the feet and working upward. The physique section became then boiled and fed to the prisoner, so as that he slowly ate himself to dying. no fee for foodstuff to the taxpayers. cruel and strange punishment? no longer in my view.

I dont think he should just get the money for life. He was probably very close to the man he killed and that would be such a painful thing to live with. But thats just it. I dont think people should just let him stop living his life! Help him! Get him some treatment, help him learn how to live his life in a positive way after this horrible event. If he has a wife and kids then they need him too. Think about all the people that lost loved ones in the world trade center. Tragic! I feel for them. They also have to find a way to go on living life and raising kids. Always remember the people lost to you in life and they will always be there. To live with hate, anger or even guilt in your heart is not a way to really "live"

If it was truly an accident he should not just be cast out. Would you be able to survive on $900 a month? That is not even enough to pay rent on most dinky apartments.

I hope the widow wins her case. Cop's are suppose to be trained in the handling of fire arms for crying out loud. And NO, the cop should not get rewared for shooting his partner. And he should go to jail , just like anybody else. Putts!!

Well Snoop, what dangers did you face at work today? He probably was very close to his partner. You wouldn't understand the brotherhood of a military unit or police department. If you did you wouldn't be the bitter person you are.
