In the UK you won't build up any resistance to bacteria as it is so highly treated it is v clean. There is no difference between hard water and soft water in that respect. In India you can get a stomach bug just from brushing your teeth if you have not been brought up on it.

I drink tap water all the time as you are required to drink at least 3 litres a day. The area I live in is predominantly hard water which can cause a build up of calcium in you body but as for bacteria no. You are far more likely to suffer from bacteria from bottled water as the bottled water could be stored for a long period of time in incorrect conditions prior to you drinking it. The main disadvantage with hard water is that it damages white goods quicker with a build up of calcium on the elements i.e Boiler, kettle, washing machine. You will also use more soap in hard water as it is more difficult to achieve a lather. Believe me when I say this tap water in the UK is of the highest quality for consumption. Very clever marketing/imaging has made it chic to drink bottled water. The profit in bottled water is phenomenal and is worth millions to the respective suppliers. Finally all the food you consume is cooked in tap water, beer / soft drink you consume, tap water.

In the UK tap water is OK to drink so no need to avoid it. I do drink it sometimes but as I don't like the taste I prefer to use a filter jug for drinking water and the kettle.

I never drink tap water, and I am a biologist. I drink filtered water, bottled water only! Tap water is usually safe to drink, I just can not handle the taste of it.

Things you'll find in your tap water. Fluoride, a cancer causing chemical, extremely toxic. Chlorine, a cancer causing chemical, extremely toxic to humans, plants and animals. Heavy metals in some areas due to ground water contamination. Other areas are contaminated with pesticides and many other chemicals. It's not paranoia, it's something you need to deal with. Get educated about what's happening with your water supply.
I do not drink tap water. We do buy bottled Spring Water after investigating who wasn't trying to rip the public off. For the home we have water filters on all spigots in the house.

Tap water is ok. Its got lots of recycled vitamins and minerals and medicine in it so you should stay healthy. Ive been drinking it for years. Its cheaper than the bottled stuff as well. I think the ad men are trying to convince us that tap water is bad so well buy the bottled stuff.

Tap water won't kill you if you drink it, so if you choose to, then more power to you. I however refuse to drink it because it tastes like crap. If you want a good bottled water to drink, try Fiji brand, it's the most clean tasting water I've ever had.
