At this point, is Windows Vista stable? I was thinking of getting it and upgrading my computer with it.

no it is not. There are many compatibility issues right now, and a lot of devices (graphics cards, sound cards, mobos, ect) do not have working drivers for vista.

Wait until M$ produces a service pack, then upgrade.

Lots of bugs right now.

I've been running Vista since March. While it's true, there are some compatibility issues still to be resolved, it's not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I personally, love it! It feels so much more advanced than XP. And to be perfectly honest, there's only been a limited number of programs that had a compatibility issue. When it happens, the system will automatically revert the settings (in my case) back to Vista Basic. (I've got Vista Home Premium) Once it does that, I don't have any problems running the programs. It feels like it's a lot safer too; Especially while surfing the Internet. I love the instant search feature. It doesn't sound the most exciting, but it's extremely handy...no more waiting for the lil' dog to finish digging. LOL However, it's a huge program, so you'll need plenty of space for it to spread it's wings and fly.

Hope I've helped. Just as a final note...I'd NEVER go back to XP now.

Unless your computer is brand new, I wouldn't upgrade to Windows Vista, and here's why.

Some hardware won't work.

Some of your installed software might not work.

You need about 1GB of RAM, in spite of the fact that Microsoft says that 512MB is ok.

Upgrading to Windows Vista is not easily reversible, so once you start... you are STUCK.

But Windows Vista IS the future. If you got a new computer, I'd say YES, get it; but get more RAM. So save that money for a computer that is PRE-LOADED with it.

Hey, you can buy Windows Vista without a computer for $159. Or you can buy a computer WITH Windows Vista for $359. So TAKE the computer for $200 more. There is no better bargain than a package deal.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Vista is a very stable operating system. However it has some flaws as all new windows operating systems do. The best thing for you to do is wait until the first major service pack release and then jump onboard. Vista is the future and once Microsoft gets it right we will all grow to love it as we do XP. Unless you're sick of Viruses because Microsoft will never be rid of viruses. Good Luck HTH.

Vista is stable, is the aps that you run on vista and the hardware drivers that are the issue. If there is no compelling reason to upgrade right now, why not wait?

If you hav to use and DEPEND ON winDOZE? stay with xp pro, at least its managable and compatible with most hdw and sftw... cheers~

My opinion is to wait. All of the 'bugs' haven't been worked out yet, as with any new OS,(remember WinXP when it first came out?)
