If you are consistently cramping, you need more protein in your diet as long as you continue to work out. After each work out, you definitely need to stretch.

If you are currently suffering from the cramp you describe, then try this: sit on the edge of a kitchen chair, preferably with no arms. Put the ankle of the cramped leg on the opposite knee. Put both hands on your foot, and keeping your back straight, lean forward slightly. Lean further and further each time you bend, but don't do it if it causes too much pain. You just want to ease it out. Try this two or three times and see what happens. This is a stretch intended for your glutes, but it might help out your current dilemma, if only a little bit.

Hmmmm... could be a lack of calcium, and you could also be low on potassium. Supplements will help that. (Eat bananas, for extra potassium.) Or you might just need to stretch. As big a fan as I am of consistent workouts, are you overdoing? And yes, as everyone else suggests, are you getting enough water?

A common problem in upper-thigh/hip pain is a tight ITB (Iliotibial band.) This can cause pain that runs anywhere from the outside top of the hip to the knee. It can be worsened by overuse. Here's a link that has some great info ITB info - and this is from a REAL doctor (lol) - hope it is helpful for you!

Try eating a banana a day. Lack of potassium usually causes cramps.

My football and basketball coaches blame a lot of players cramps on the lack of drinking water. Drink or carry some water with you on your walks.

Cramps are sometimes cause by a potassium deficiency. Either bananas, or potassium gluconate will help this. I have taken potassium gluconate and it helped. OTC at a pharmacy (chemist's).

Make sure you are getting enough water. Dehydration is a bigger cause of cramps than potassium levels.

If you're always getting them, then you may have to opt for physical therapy. I used to suffer from cramps (right thigh) but when I underwent physical therapy for it, they're gone just like that.
