Salt?? Used to be iodine and baby oil. Why not just spray on some Pam? Seriously, you are not a turkey! Tanning comes from the melatonin in your skin, not basting your carcass. The answer is no.

A mixture of baby oil and salt definitely affects sun tanning because it increases the amount of UV radiation your skin absorbs, so it can easily burn you to a crisp, and its is worse than using nothing. You also can buy commercial tanning oils. IF you want to get a tan over a period of a few days, you are better off using a sunscreen with a value around 8 instead of oil. It is just too easy to overdo it with oil.

If you rub something with oil and salt, and put it under the broiler, it will turn brown. But unless you want to pop yourself under the broiler, it won't turn you brown. There are easier ways. For example you can buy products that color your skin and make it appear as though you have a tan. All sorts of moisturizers and foundation creams today have these products in them as well, so you can be as brown as you wish, without ever setting foot outdoors. Or under the broiler.

ditto on the skin cancer thing, real tans aren't in anymore. buy some skin darkening lotion or spray on tan. if you do that whole oil and salt thing, you would deserve to get skin cancer and then be banned from the sun for the rest of your days

Well, it certainly helps a turkey get crispy in the oven. Baking yourself in the sun will probably work too.

I don't know if it will give you a tan, but it does sound like a good starter for skin cancer.
