One day i woke up with a swollen eyelid and all this puss was inside of it. Then i went to the doctor 3 days later and got this anti boitic called Augmentin. I took the first pill about 2 hours ago and the puss went away and my eyelid feels normal. Is it bad to go out in the sun? Or can i just go about my usual routine. Or do i have to stay indoors?

Augmentin is a pretty powerful antibiotic, and many people end up with a slight rash from this drug after about one week of using it. My skin had a major reaction to sun when I last used this stuff. If you spend a bunch of time in the sun, the odds increase that you will end up with an annoying, itchy red rash, and possibly have to stop the medicine and switch to something else. Its not a big health risk or anything, but its something to consider. If you decide to go into the sun, use a sunblock that blocks both UVA and UVB.

I would stay inside for a couple more days. Continue taking your antibiotics as directed until they are gone. Problems arise when patients do not continue taking ALL the antibiotics and the infection will return, and a drug resistance can develop..Direct sunlight is not a good idea for now,the thin skin that makeup the eyelids will be over sensitive to the sun. When you do go out, wear sunglasses for eye protection. Some antibiotics also will cause your skin more sensitive to sunlight, burning easier than normal, wear a sunblock.Take care. SW RNP

Augmentin in my drugs handbook is listed with amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin is is the category of aminopeniciliins. There is not indication that it will cause sun sensitivity. It does say in general that amoxicillin can make birth control less effective. It also says it can cause diarrhea and that if it does, not to take over the counter drugs for that, but to call your dr.

Here is a website all about augmentin that you can view yourself. I already read through all safety information and it doesnt mention sun sensitivity. I also read through the page on amoxicillin and it also does not mention sun sensitivity. Some antibiotics do not req that you stay out of the sun. I am on one right now that allows me to go in the sun, and even drink alcohol.

If you want to be on the safe side, wear shades. But it looks like you will be fine without them. Hope this helps! :)
