I'm told to "line up where my best 10k time is", are there pace runners for each 10 minute increment that you can run with? What kind of foot traffic will I be dealing with?

Depends where you stand in the pack but you should cross that start line within 1 or 2 minutes. The 1st km will be a little crowded but then you should be OK once the field is a little spread out.

As for pace runners, it depends on the race.

In a race that small I wouldn't expect there to be pace runners. Psychologically though it is better to be passing people than to be being passed by a lot of people. Line up where you should line up and try to run your race. If you start to near the front you will be left behind or you will go too fast. If you start to far back you will feel good because you will be passing people, but you may not get your best time.

Basically if you aren't there to win the race, don't get in the way of the people who are. There will be the crazies out front and I would suggest somewhere in the middle as the rear is for the slower runners and walkers. A hint; stick to the sides because it's easier to maneuver around people rather than being in a big group. You can usually use the curbs to get around more people than you could if you were stuck in the middle. Good luck!

Get in the front pace with the people that are running near the front, but if you slow down you will probably get tripped ...i've experienced it and let me tell you, it is not fun.
