Get a 20' training lead. Make him walk as if he were on a short lead, the stop and let him walk around a bit. Once he reaches about 10', call him to you. If he doesn't come, put pressure on the lead and guide him in your direction. Once he gets to you, make him sit and praise him. Once he gets the short distance down pat, let him get a little further and recall him. Always praise him when he gets to you.

Using an upbeat, "fun" voice when you call him to you works great. Boxers as with Dobermans can tend to be headstrong and do as they please, but stick with it. Until he is SOLID on leash, you can't expect him to do it off leash.

Stick with it. 15-20 minutes at a time twice a day, and be consistant. If you don't feel up to working with him and try to do it anyway, it's not going to be very productive.

Take him through several levels of obedience classes. I can't stress obedience enough - this takes committment however -

I would never allow my darling dog off lead - no matter how well trained he happens to be. And many communities have strict leash laws - obey them, please. We wouldn't want your sweet boxer (wonderful breed) to be hit by a car - or run off and get lost.

Shock collar
Have a female American Bulldog that when she was out side didn't know her name and didn't care!
Bought an e-collar and now she is stuck to my leg like white on rice!
If you are unfamiliar with this training consult a professional!!!
