Yep, do it all the time. Its easy... and eye-opening.
You have to keep your mind awake while your body falls asleep. And, once your body falls asleep, you can move freely in your etheric body-or your astral body. To do this, you can listen to music, or take a nap in the day when your mind hasn't been worn & when you are tired. It's hard the first couple times, and can be easier with meditation and a guide.
I've seen people long distances and tested myself. It's not a hallucination. It's documented reality, plain'ol. It's fantastic, because your mental is a plane and you can go there and make anything happen. Also, you can travel "time" or what is more properly seen as the etheric patterns. You can see the Universe and so on.
I've been doing it since I was a kid. I feel bad that others think it's lunacy.

There is just so much myth and fear surrounding astral projection. The variety and polarity of the different answers posted is a testiment to that. It's too bad really.
Astral travel happens when our consciousness leaves the physical body and goes into the astral or 5th dimension. This happens every night when we sleep because this is where dreams take place. We don't usually realize this because we have fallen into a dream and usually don't even realize we are dreaming.
It is possible to learn how to consciously project or to even wake up in a dream ( that is become aware that you are actually dreaming and therefor are in the astral).
Since our consciousness goes into the astral every night and since we wake up in our beds, safe and sound every morning it becomes pretty obvious that astral travel is quite safe and natural.
Yes, anyone can astral travel. Like I said we are all in the astral every night because it is the place where dreams take place. We only need to learn some simple techniques to be able to be there consciously.
With a little practice almost anyone can learn to astral travel. It is focused concentration at the moment the body falls asleep that result in a conscious astral projection.
Its great. You can fly, walk through walls and objects, meet people and talk to spiritual beings, get answers about life, travel in an instant to anywhere in the world or even beyond etc. It is really a magical experience and gives you a whole new perspective on life and the universe.
It is only provable to those who do it. But there is no mistake. You can be just as aware and conscious there as you are right now, and even more so. Any one that has astral projected knows that it isn't a figment of your imagination, or a dream or an altered state of consciousness. The Astral is a real place.
The best place to get clear and accurate information on astral travel is her at www.astralweb.org or the parent site www.gnosticweb.com.
Both are top notch sites with a wealth of excellent information...best of all it's free.

I didnt know what astral travel/ astral projection was, until it happened to me. It was an incredible experience that happened to me during meditation, where I met up with my grandmother & father from the spirit world. Some neccesary work was done & then I returned. I was out of my body for two & a half hours. It was fantastic.

I have done it by chance a couple of times. I found it hard to control my movements. Ziiiip i'd be over the telephone cables in the street, think I need to get down - Wham - face nearly in the tarmac, all in the blink of an eye. Very disconcerting.
However I have visited my passed over father over on the Astral, though I gather it was rather more him guiding me over safely, than me joining him.
If I had control enough over my thoughts, I could fly like a bird and go anywhere I am allowed to go, alas I don't have the requisite skills.

When our mind vibrates at higher subtle frequencies.. we feel as if separated from physical body.
Astral travel takes our mind to different levels of existence
many have this capacity from childhood, due to last birth's meditation
With Vipasana meditation and some Pranayama techniques, any one can develp this techinque
and it is a great feeling

You probably are already doing it and you don't know. It is when you leave your body while sleeping. I do this a couple of times a week. Every time I come back in my body, I feel a choking sensation. You can read some of Sylvia Browne's books and familiarize yourself with this. You have to distinguish between "was that a dream or was I out of my body?"

It sound like you are talking about an out-of-body experience. If so, it means that you can will your spirt to leave your body & travel in spirit form. There are books about it or you can check out this web site: www.astralvoyage.com

It is a particular gift - dependent on a brain/heart energy connection. It can happen by accident, but I wouldn't deliberately attempt it without support. We're not all Mohammed, sometimes the body doesn't do so well when you leave.
