Asking because of this article, in which some parents got offended for just that reason:

http://www.startribune.com/465/story/1193496.html

Isn't one of the commandments to honor your parents? So why would Christians want to sow discord in a family like that--I mean, actively try like that?

Also, if you're not Christian, how would you react in this situation?

As a Christian, I would have to say that it is appalling to imagine other Christians approaching 10-year old kids to evangelize to them. On so many levels, it's not right. Why would they do that?

First off, kids that age in general can't even understand sin well enough to repent... it's pointless.

Second off, even if they did - the parents are the teachers and keepers of the kids and will teach them their beliefs.

Third off, it's completely disrespectful to the parents. If they want to approach somebody, try the parents first.

Fourth off, approaching strange kids is more than eerie... it makes people look like molesters... in this day and age it's not a good idea.

Finally, Christ calls us to talk to people we KNOW and who ask. Not to preach it on the streets to whoever happens to be there.

Wow. thanks for the article. Very stupid behaviors out there!

Be blessed!

It's not okay for anyone to proselytize to a parent's child without the parents permission. Stuff like that can get someone busted up quick. Religion is the parent's responsibility. The child will make up his/her mind when they're ready.

Insha'Allah, I would be very firm and aggressive in my tone if someone approached my daughter with religious talk without my permission. The person(s) would thoroughly be convinced not to approach my child with out my consent.

That is a real touchy issue. It really hits home with me. I have three nieces and one nephew who do not know anything about Jesus Christ and His love. Ranging in ages from 1-5 they don't even know why we really celebrate most of the holidays we celebrate or why bad things happen and things of that nature. I personally haven't talked to them about Christ yet because of two main reasons. One being that of the parents unwillingness. and two being the mere complexity of the matter at such an early age. Perhaps in a few years they'll begin to ask questions. Until then their in the care of the mercy of almighty God.

Its a bad idea all around, aside from just interfering with someone else's parenting. In this age of pervs and pedophiles, you're causing needless anxiety with parents if they see some stranger talking to their kids.

I just want to say that I am a Christian, and i would NOT want anyone evangelizing to my kids in a park. That is very creepy.

It is not okay for ANY stranger to approach someone else's children....period.

I completely support church outreach programs; however, it should be up to a child's parents whether or not the child participates. Approaching children who are playing at the park is completely unacceptable....especially in today's world!

Absolutely not.

Children aren't christian or Muslim or Mormon or anything - they're just children. The fact that the parents are a particular religion doesn't mean anything.

Until they have the capacities to decide for themselves children shouldn't be considered anything, especially religious.

I am a Christian and I think people should leave other people's children alone. I would not want just anyone walking up and sharing their beliefs with my kids.

pushing beliefs on a kid is wrong especially if it's not yours.
little kids have very vulnerable minds that can easily be taken advantage of.

for example you could probably raise a kid to believe that the furniture is really alive but dosn't move.

if i was the parent i would have been pissed

oh yeah by the way evangelicals are the worse and i truely hate them without passion
