You can sign a warrant against him and have him arrested for harassment. I would also make sure I had means to protect myself and my family. It's like the other person said, the police can't do anything unless he acts first. He has made threats so now it's your turn to swear out a warrant, then the police can do their part. I know it may not keep him from acting on his threats, but you have to do something to let him know you won't go down without a fight.

The police are best suited to take care of this problem. But it would help your case tremendously if there is any way you can document the threats toward you and you family. IE Save threatening messages left on the answering machine.Even if you can't provide the documentation go to the police any way and make them take a report so if in the future if something should happen there's documentation. Follow all the common sense rules for keeping each other safe don't go out alone, keep windows and doors locked. Have a safe route planned to get out of your home etc. In regards to the whole gun issue no one should ever buy a fire arm that they are not fully trained on. Training clearly lowers the risk of accidents.

I have personally dealt with a similar situation years ago. If an individual of that nature is making physical and/or verbal threats you SHOULDN'T trust him. You shouldn't have to feel insecure about your family's health and wellbeing- and safety. I personally don't know the details of the situation or where this confrontation is taking place (inner suburbs, etc.) The BEST thing you can do is ask to speak to someone.. particularly someone in law enforcement... even a guidance counselor. Asking to sit down with an officer for 20 minutes and discussing the situation with them will allow this problem to be opened up to people that can help you, help yourselves. Most importantly, to help take this burden off of your family's shoulders. An officer's job is knowing how to appropriately deal with these kinds of situations- IT IS OK if you don't know what to do- but IT IS IMPORTANT to communicate to the best resources possible what is going on. They will be able to brainstorm with you on what options are available at this time and what is the most fitting under the circumstances. Then you can go from there. It's taking small steps of preventive measures and making sure the right people know what is going on. IF any kind of city official, librarian, counselor, (*law enforcement personnel) knows of the situation- no matter how big or small- they can be there to oversee things that you might not catch. This isn't a problem that you or your family should -or should feel- to solve on your own. When someone -anyone- starts making any kind of threats of that nature it is crucial to talk to the people that protect all of us and each other. Not only that, they can be some of the best mediators for this kind of a situation. Whatever you choose to do- just try to sit down with an officer- male or female- and talk to them. You might be surprised how helpful they can be.

First call the police , inform them of this person, then inform them that you are buying a gun for home protection. I Seriously suggest buying the gun , get a lockbox for it and all for safety, also if you have never fired a gun before go to a fireing range and ask someone to teach you. If you think this is a joke its not , you have the right to defend yourself , your family and your property . If by chance this man comes on your property after all of this you have the legal right to shoot him in self defense. You have warned the cops about the person makeing life threating remarks etc etc. So its all on record. I dont exactly want you to have to shoot anyone , but sometimes the police are little to no help at all. I wouldent suggest takeing the gun out of your house either, make sure you know what you can and cant do with a gun if you plan on traveling with it. Pepper spray or a taser gun works wonders for personal security outside of the home. Both for best results :p Good Luck

Call the Police ASAP and report this problem! This is not something you should have to deal with alone. Get yourself some pepper spray or anything else you can carry legally and have a cell phone set to speed dial the police with you at all times.

He has broken the law and the police can do something about it. Making criminal threats is a misdemeanor and he could face jail time for it. You or someone he has made the threats to has to take the first step and fill out an affidavit affirming to these comments he has made.

If you do not have caller ID get it. It is not that expensive and get voice mail or an answering machine. If they leave a threatening voice mail you can use that against them with the police. Voice mails are admissible in court (Unless they are a complete idiot, they know that they are being recorded)

stun gun, powerful bb gun, pepper spray, OR an executive protection dog they are mostly $50,000 dollars but this is the cheapest I could find which is only $5500. They also give these dogs to their local PD. They will back off when they see the dog barking at them. If they dont back off you just give the dog a command to bite. they can even tackle the attacker when they have a muzzle on. These dogs are also obedience trained too.

Police.
I'll say it again.
Police.
This is not something for private citizens to deal with. If you are too scared to go to the police at least consult with a lawyer who can tell you what your legal protections are.

Honestly, I would go to wal-mart and buy a shotgun. I live in a bad neighborhood and people threaten other people all the time. Sometimes cops just arent fast enough. If someone comes into my house and threatens me, they will wish they hadnt.
