Yes, I did know that. Unfortunately it's usually ignored or people are just ignorant of the facts.
As for God's Kitty remark that Pope Benedict was a former Nazi...that's hogwash. He was part of the Hitler Youth which most young german boys participated in. Kind of like ROTC is for us. This hardly makes him a Nazi.
Not to mention, prior to WWII, the Nazi were seen as good guys.

I once came across excerpts from the nuremburg trials - actual court documents. They were on the interweb, but i cant find them anymore. It contains detailed and accurate numbers of all who died at the camps. Over 5 million were Christian - orthodox and catholic. It must be remembered that the nazis wanted to wipe out the Jews totally. The others, especially the Slavic people - it was stated that the Nazis wanted to reduce the Slavic population of Europe by 30 million - to have just enough left over to become slaves in the 3rd reich. Most Slavic people are Catholic. This information came from Nazi officers at the trials.

A good book to read on this subject is, "Inside the Vatican of Pius XII: The Memoirs of an American Diplomat during World War II." by Harold Tittman Jr. Harold's father lived in the Vatican the entire time of the war. He was Americas correspondent to the Vatican. He kept a journal of all the events and his son, after his death, composed this book from his fathers journal. It's a real and true historical documentation on what really happened inside the walls of the Vatican during the Holocaust.

Only God knows the heart of Pope Pius XII who was the pope during the Holocaust. We do know as you have stated that many good Christian Catholics helped save many Jewish lives. I have always said that in every Christian religion, you will find followers of Jesus Christ doing the right thing and for the right purpose.

They weren't in cahoots with him, but they didn't do anything to stop him. Germany signed a concordat with the Vatican in 1938.
Only after it looked like Hitler might lose did the Catholic church start to speak out against Hitler.
