Yes actually, they can. Happened to me and wasn't a darn thing I could do about it.

Actually no they can't remove the tint from the car they can issue a ticket for it being to low or too dark but they cannot remove it, its considered vandalism this applies to the police too, they are not allowed, well not supposed to make any changes to a person vehicle in anyway shape of form even when searching a car they arent supposed to move the seats around but are to only look under or feel around to find stuff that you suspected to be carry on you or in your car, at this point depending on where it happened at, if that officer has any past reports of misconduct, and you have a witness you may not be able to do anything about it but get it fixed yourself, I will say their are some really great police officers out there, but there are a hell of a lot more crooked officers and judges in small county areas then meets the eye, and if its one of these your probably better off leaving it alone.
Did the officer even put the tint reader up to the window (I dont know what it is called though it tells them what the rating of the tint is) if he didn't you may be able to fight it, he was probably really cocky and wanted to mess with someone and you happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, he may of not even filled a report for the tent and wrote it off as if it was a check to see if you had a valid drivers licence and insurance, if you remember his name I would say fight it and make the county pay for the new tint. he should have a record of pulling you over at that time, marked on there schedule pad they have to list everything they do with the times and for what reason, this is why you see police sitting on the side of the road doing nothing for long periods of time his closed circuit camera should have the evidence that he did something to your car unless his car was at a deffinite slant which he will also get in trouble for since the front cams have to be able to see the entire car and what the officer is doing.

Every state has different laws reguarding tint on the side front windows. Some states dont allow any tint at all on those windows and some only allow a lighter tint. You need to look and see what the laws are in your state or post your state, and I will be happy to look it up.
If it was illegal tint, there really isnt anything you can do about it. If it wasnt illegal tint, it will be your word against the cops, you wont win that one. In general, many cops dont like dark tint, so by putting it on your car, you are pretty much just asking for trouble. Think about it this way, if you were a cop, would you want to pull over a car and walk up on it without being to see inside it?

So he peeled a little spot of your tint, which you admit was illegal? Tough noogies, you had to get it fixed anyway. Good luck complaining a police officer damaged your illegal window film.
A fix-it ticket would have meant making the window legal and proving it. What he did was force you make it legal and save you a trip.

I think he did you a favor as he could have gave you a fine in most state. You are not allowed tint passed back windows and in some states none on Back. I'd check local regs as they will be looking for you know.
Go ahead and contact Police I bet it will get worse for yo and be all legal.

His action was illegal and should be reported. He is counting on you not wanting to take any action because the tint was illegal.
My guess is he didn't want to give you a ticket, so he wouldn't have to go to court. By damaging your property, he figured you would remove it, and he wouldn't have to bother with a trip to court.

Yes, if it is too dark for the city limits. Or you would have to get it removed and go back to the cop shop and show them three days later that it is removed and if not...... you'll find a ticket in the mail.

If your tint is legal, they have no rights to peel it off your window. Also, they cannot peel the tint off your window if you are a famous or important person.
