it is a lot safer than Kazaa. However, it depends on how careful you are when using limewire. when you do a search for something you may get some viruses files with the results, however; those viruses won't get to your computer unless you download them. So how can you figure out which files are real and which files are viruses? Simple!. lets say you looked for a movie trailer and the search returned a bunch of files ready for download, well, logically the trailer isnt going to be less than 25MB in size. therefore, you stay away from files that claim to be the movie trailer but are only 96KB in size. basically, always pay attention to the size of the file you are downloading. The small files are usually viruses. Big files are usually not. also, make sure you set your anti-virus to highest security protection. I've used LimeWire for a while, and I've kept my computer safe. I do a full virus scan once a week and so far my computer has never been infected. Like I said, you have to be careful when using it. and if you are careful enough then you are alway on the safe side.

it is safe at the same extent you are. if you want to use a P2P program you must have a good antivirus and firewall.

while you are downloading files from other users not from the company, you don't know who you are sharing files with.

quicktime files usually are infected with virus that open other pages. some pictures have some problems to delete because of a long name. some good stuff is marked as trash and it is not. some times the virus are not detected because are disguised inside the files. just be careful and use you common sense.

I use Limewire and paid to upgrade to the PRO version, but I have never had a problem using it, in fact it has been great. I don't recommend downloading program files (.exe) off of it, from Limewire or any other's, because .exe files can contain viruses and there is no avoiding that. But if you only want to download songs, then yes use Limewire.

I have only used it for MP3 songs and I shut it down immediatly after I'm done. A buddy of mine claims he got a virus from a video he downloaded. Be wary of these types of sites and what folders you are going to share.
