I stopped breastfeeding my 1 year old daughter 3 weeks ago. She is my third child to have breastfed. Two months ago I started spotting, like my body was starting to get a period. I still haven't got a period since I stopped breastfeeding. My milk hasn't dried up all the way either. I don't think that I am producing enough to satisfy a baby but I am still producing some milk. I have been extremely crampy for the last week. I keep thinking my period is coming and it hasn't come. I took a pregnancy test just to make sure it wasn't that. The results were negative. I just wonder if these things have occurred when other mothers have stopped breastfeeding. I am not sure if I should just go ahead and schedule a doctor's appointment.

When I stopped bf-ing after about that same time, my hormones went crazy and got terrible migraines. My doc said that was pretty normal, with anything that changes your hormone levels - like bf-ing.

If she's 1, and you had a typical 6 week check-up after birth - you're probably due to for your annual exam anyway, so might as well go in.

I would wait, your period will come when your body is ready this can be as long as three months after you stop breastfeeding -and of course can happen before you stop breastfeeding as well. Everyone is different.

Personally I got my period back at 5 months post partum despite meeting all the criteria for using Lactational Amenorrhea Method as birth control. Currently I am still nursing my 15 month old and am 3 months pregnant.
