Joseph Smith was a prophet, but I'm not sure what you mean by equal. I do agree that he has done the most for the human family, save Jesus alone.

AGREE! fully and totally. Joseph Smith WAS a Prophet. He DID see God the Father, Jesus Christ, John the Baptist, ect. The Book of Mormon IS true. And lastly THe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints IS the ONLY true church on the face of this earth.

Joseph Smith was a false prophet and was equal to any of the sons of Belial in the OT and to Simon the sorcerer of the NT.

No one is better then Jesus John 3:16. You need to confess you are a sinner, that you need jesus as your lord and Savior and say the sinner's prayer and get saved, that is what is missing from mormanism, the fact that man cannot do it on his own and that the preisthood is not a magical thing, that God is the only one to get us thru life, thru the blood jesus shed on the cross.

Joseph claimed he was on par with Mahomet (Muhammed). Actually he was quite liberal at describing himself as only a CTR educated person could understand.

As it pertains to Mormon Doctrine, I believe your comparison is inaccurate and/or invalid as you are comparing a prophet to apostles.
Notwithstanding, which Twelve are you comparing JS to?
If you are comparing them to the present Twelve, then no, I do not believe they are equal to him.
Nor, do I really believe he was 'equal' to the original Twelve.
I believe that it is incorrect to attempt to establish or discussion any kind of true equality between any of these individiuals, as each had their own individiual job/purpose.
There may be similarities, but not true equalities--except those that exist on an eternal and/or spiritual level--or those as seen, perceived and understood from the perspective of our Heavenly Father.
I believe that instead of asking others whether they agree with you or not on this topic, it would seem to me that it would be more fruitful for you to demonstrate what you believe are similarities between JS and other "holy men that you know not of."
Did you know that some"Gnostics" consider JS to be one of the greatest modern day "Gnostic Leader" that there is/was?

Anyone can be a prophet, so, yeah.
In numerous religions, including Abrahamic religions, Jah religions, Sikhism, and many forms of Paganism, a prophet is an intermediary with a deity, particularly someone who claims to speak for the deity or interprets the deity's will or mind. A prophet usually operates through some means of divination, channeling, or extra-sensory perception, and the prophet's pronouncements in the name of a deity are sometimes called revelation. ...

I agree with you Brother... most of these people here obviously have not humbled themselves before the Lord and asked in faith and with a contrite spirit to know whether or not Joseph was a prophet called of God.
