BB is a Battleship. In its time was the most powerful warship on the water, affordable only to very powerful nations, and was used as a means to project naval power.
CVN is a nuclear powered Aircraft Carrier. In WWII the aircraft carrier supplanted the battleship as the most powerful warship because of its ability to strike targets at a much greater range than the battleship.

BBs are battleships and there is only one still commissioned: The USS ARIZONA. They also didn't have a flat deck capable of launching fighter planes. but they did have really really big guns.

CVNs are nuclear powered Aircraft carriers. Smaller guns, aircraft and are all still currently Operating in the Fleet.
