I think you can only be fired for performance reasons, not because of the way you are wired. And even if it were for performance reasons, they would need to put you on probation first to give you a chance to improve.
As for the emotional response, you may want to see if you are considered an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). A quick test...do you cry at certain points when watching a movie when nobody else is crying?
The other possibility is that you are super-sensitive to criticism, which is very common. Most of us display some sort of defense mechanism when we believe we are under attack (crying, getting angry, etc.) The challenge is to recondition ourselves to see that receiving most criticism is not an attack, but actually something that is helpful. But it is possible that in your past, criticism was indeed an attack, so that you are now preceiving ALL criticism to be attacks and not helpful.
You also need to separate your identity/esteem from your job and your job performance...your functions and performance do not define who you are.
Either way, I think you should be able to resolve this without medication.

It does happen sometime in our lives we are more sensitive and emotional than other times. It could be as well the way they are saying that to you that makes you so upset. Maybe it's a lack of touch on their side. Maybe they are picking on you. Or maybe you are too tense and you need to relax and understand that everyone makes mistakes and it'ss a learning process. They can't fire you over that, it would be unfair dismissal. Try and take some yoga classes, it does help a lot, it helped me with my emotional issues anyway.

you might need some cognitive behavioral therapy to change your thinking patterns through a counsellor. It will help you learn to relax and take things at face value, a suggestion is just that a suggestion it does not mean a personal attck or insult to your abilities or work, you will be fine but do talk to a counsellor

you are on medications and that is a good thing, but if you are not also participating in some counselling, your emotional fragility will continue and no doubt get worse. You burst into tears because of unresolved issues, and until you deal with those issues in a constructive manner, you aren't going to get better, meds or no meds. Get yourself to a counsellor and get those issues dealt with.

Try Bachs, it might help.
And make sure you're eating a breakfast every day, plus lunch and dinner at reasonable hours. Blood sugar crashes can make you burst into tears for no reason.

I don't think that you can lose your job for being too emotional but I do think that you can jeopoardise your chances of upward mobiliity. This is the sort of weapon that elite men use to keep women out of leadership - that they cannot handle the pressure. I don't think that it's necessarily a weakness but it can be perceived as such.

Work can be very stressful and it sounds like you very hard. It also sounds like you are passionate about what you do so you take alot of pride in it. I think you will get through this because you care. Just take deep breaths and try not take things personally. Its hard but you'll get there
