Oh my Satan! or Oh my Darwin?

Or perhaps something else?

Why? some ask:

Why not? I don't believe satan exists, so it really doesn't matter what mythical person or personal hero I substitute for God, does it?

Why? Non theists don't believe in Satan or pray to Darwin. There's no reason for them not to use what has become a generic expression of shock or alarm.

You mean athiest?

And no because Satan would still be a figure with questionable existence.

And we dont worship Darwin because he is just another human being. We could have respect for him though.

And also, why the link between athiest and science? You dont have to be pro-science to be an athiest.

OMS indicates a belief in Satan so could not be used by non-theists.

I've always interpreted 'OMG' as 'I am as surprised by this as if there actually were an almighty being who concerned himself with earthly affairs'. So it's fine the way it is.
